Responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Previous flag football coaching or playing experience at the middle school, high school, or collegiate level preferred.
  • Strong understanding of flag football fundamentals, position-specific techniques, and safety principles.
  • Ability to work with student-athletes of varying skill levels and developmental stages.
  • Alignment with the Great Hearts mission and commitment to character-focused coaching.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Consistent availability on school days at or after 3:30 PM for practices, games, and team activities.

JOB GOAL

To help each student-athlete achieve the highest level of skill, an appreciation for discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship, and a deepened sense of self-confidence and personal dignity. The Assistant Cheer Coach will support a year-round program that competes at the highest levels of high school cheerleading, including national competitions in Anaheim, CA, while upholding the Catholic mission and values of Seton Catholic Preparatory. All activities are conducted in observance of AIA, Arizona Interscholastic Association, and school policies, promoting the integral development of the whole student-athlete.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to)

  1. Organizes and oversees specific program levels or assigned areas of responsibility across all competitive seasons (fall sideline, winter competition, and spring training/nationals preparation).
  2. Communicates with the Head Coach and Director of Athletics to secure appropriate facilities and ensure a safe practice and competition environment throughout the year-round program.
  3. Supports the Head Coach's philosophy, programmatic instruction of sequential fundamentals, advanced stunting, tumbling progressions, and proper conditioning protocols.
  4. Collaborates with the Head Coach on practice plans and competition strategies that prioritize the health, physical well-being, and athletic development of student participants.
  5. Assists in coordinating and supervising in-season and out-of-season practices, choreography sessions, and national competition preparation.
  6. Assures that all student participants are in compliance with Seton Catholic Prep requirements including a current athletic physical, signed Code of Conduct, fees paid, and verified academic eligibility, prior to any practice, tryout, or competition.
  7. Models and instills the Catholic values of sportsmanship, fair play, integrity, and service to others in all participants, and enforces appropriate consequences for violations of program or school standards.
  8. Attends all student-athlete practices, games, performances, and competitions — including travel to out-of-state national events (Anaheim, CA) — and ensures proper supervision at all times, including on school-provided transportation.
  9. Maintains accurate individual and team performance records and provides end-of-season summaries to the Head Coach and Director of Athletics.
  10. Participates in a mandatory preseason parent/guardian meeting and maintains open, professional communication with families throughout the season.
  11. Assists the Head Coach in planning and executing the seasonal recognition program and end-of-year awards celebration.
  12. Assists in the orderly distribution, inventory, fitting, and collection of uniforms, practice wear, and equipment.
  13. Actively engages in personal professional development, including attendance at cheer clinics, safety certification (AACCA or equivalent), and continuing education as directed.
  14. Supports recruitment and retention of student-athletes into the cheer program in collaboration with the Head Coach and Athletic Department.
  15. Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or Director of Athletics.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a stipend-based, year-round coaching position. The stipend amount is determined by the Seton Catholic Preparatory extra-responsibility compensation schedule and is reviewed annually by the Director of Athletics and Head Cheer Coach. The position requires availability across fall, winter, and spring seasons, including participation in national-level competitions.

POSITION OBJECTIVEPosition is responsible for coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES(These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

  • Assists with organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
  • Assists with assessesment of player’s skills and assigning team positions.
  • Assists with developing a regular practice schedule and organizing practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players, during competition and practice and reports to Head Coach the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Assists with determining game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student athlete behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes.
  • Assists with monitoring the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Assists with conferencing with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
  • Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
  • Models’ sportsmanlike behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  • Assists with maintaining eligibility forms, emergency information, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.
  • Models’ nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Potentially drive athletes using district transportation to and from off campus games on 14 passenger Activity Bus and provide proof of insurance as requested. 
  • Other duties as assigned by Head Coach or Athletic Director.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

·         Prior coaching experience preferred

·         Must be at least 21 years of age.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: 

·        Valid Department of Public Safety (DPS) Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC)

·         NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certificate

·         NFHS Concussion in Sports Certificate

·         NFHS First Aid, Health, and Safety Certificate/CPR (preferred)

·         NFHS Cheer and Dance Safety Certificate (applicable for Cheer, Dance and Spiritline)

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
