Position Overview

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy, a Great Hearts Academy, is seeking a dedicated and mission-aligned Head Baseball Coach to lead and rebuild our high school baseball program. We are looking for a coach who embodies the Great Hearts philosophy, someone committed to character development, classical virtues, and cultivating student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. This role requires a coach who is passionate about program development, invested in long-term growth, and eager to build a culture of excellence from middle school through high school.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, organize, and oversee all aspects of the high school baseball program, including practices, games, player development, and team culture.
  • Rebuild and strengthen the program with a focus on fundamentals, discipline, sportsmanship, and virtue.
  • Develop and implement daily practice plans, typically starting around 3:00 PM or later on school days.
  • Utilize on-campus facilities: including batting cages and weight room.
  • Foster strong relationships with student-athletes, families, faculty, and the athletic department.
  • Mentor and support the middle school baseball program to create a unified 6th–12th grade developmental pipeline.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director and assistant coaches on long-term program development and sustainability.
  • Maintain compliance with all Great Hearts policies, league rules, safety guidelines, and school expectations.
  • Serve as a positive role model who upholds Great Hearts values both on and off the field.

 

Qualifications

  • Prior baseball coaching experience at the high school level or higher preferred.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental skill development, game strategy, and program building.
  • Alignment with the Great Hearts mission and commitment to character-focused coaching.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be consistently available on school days at or after 3:00 PM for practices and team needs.
  • Willingness to invest in and collaborate with the middle school baseball program.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain before the season begins).
  • Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card (may be in progress at time of hire).
  • Clean and professional background consistent with Great Hearts and school standards.

 

Compensation

This is a stipend-based position. Stipends vary based on experience, role, and availability.

Typical stipend range: $1,500 – $3,000 for the season.
