  • Assists in preparing the annual budget for the athletic department and monitors athletic finances throughout the year; approves all potential uniform and equipment purchases as requested or needed and submit to the financial administrator or principal for approval; directs, organizes, and controls all fundraising efforts for the athletic department in conjunction with the financial administrator and within the guidelines set by the principal and the Development Council; determines and approves usage of athletic facilities by outside groups and monitors that usage with appropriate personnel coverage and rental charges that are contracted and paid for through the main office; works with the field improvement committee to develop and maintain the fields; oversees gym maintenance and reports needs and concerns to the maintenance director. 
  • Supervises and evaluates each coach and each program annually, particularly evaluating the total program in terms of recruiting, off season programs, quality of coaching, and other related duties; interviews and submits to the administration the names of nominations for open coaching positions; arranges for coaching contracts, particularly for off-campus coaches, in conjunction with the principal; in-services and guides new coaching staff members; meets with coaches as needed before, during, and after their seasons of play to handle questions and areas of mutual concern; conducts monthly meetings of the coaching staff (August through May) and prepares the agenda for each meeting; supervises the coaching staff in regards to securing All-Conference and All-State selections for all teams; maintains regular communication with all members of the coaching staff, particularly off-campus coaches, via coaches mailboxes, letters, reminders, etc.
  • Serves as the school’s official representative for the AIA; attends required AIA and conference meetings with the assistant principal’s permission; oversees the athletic department recruiting program to be carried out by each program in compliance with AIA regulations; maintains files of all coaches currently in the program and communicates to coaches any civil, diocesan, or AIA policies that affect the coaching staff. 
  • Plans for practice facilities and home game locations and handles the arrangements for the set-up and administration of all home athletic contests (i.e., field/gym set-up, officials, scorekeepers, timers, chain gang, announcers, spotters, concessions, etc.); coordinates all transportation for athletic teams; coordinates the procedures for securing early dismissals and overnight trips for athletic teams. 
  • Coordinates the supervision of the students in all areas of the gymnasium at all times with the cooperation of the P.E. Department Chairperson and all P.E. Injury Prevention & Risk Management:

Ensure a safe playing environment by inspecting facilities, equipment, and playing surfaces.

Requirements:

Education: Master's degree in Athletic Training or a related field from an accredited institution.
Certification: Current certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association 
Licensure: Current Arizona Department of Education CTE teaching certificate or eligibility to obtain.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a certified athletic trainer, preferably in a high school setting.
Skills:
Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills.
Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in medical record-keeping software and general computer applications.

  • Develops game strategies/plans (e.g. analyzes opponent strengths and weaknesses, analyzing athlete abilities, creating plays/strategies, etc.) for the purpose of preparing the team and individual student athletes for the competition.

  • Identifies program needs for the purpose of providing recommendations of expenditures for activities, equipment, supplies, etc. that will enhance the assigned athletic program.

  • Keeps their school athletic director informed when issues arise that impact the school’s athletic program (e.g. liability concerns, parent concerns, etc.).
  • Provides appropriate and prudent supervision for all athletes and students involved in the program.
  • Explains and discusses the PVUSD Athletic Code of Conduct with all athletes in their program.
  • Maintains high standards of personal conduct.  Coaches should serve as role models for their athletes.
  • Ensures that all coaches involved with their program, whether paid or volunteer are cleared through the PVUSD Human Resources Department.
