Primary Head Coach Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the entire Baseball program in accordance with the mission and values of the Tonopah Valley High School athletic department. This would include program alignment, team management, player development,
  • Scheduling, filming, sideline technology, statistics, equipment management, and inventory.
  • Involved in selection, leadership, and training of a staff of coaches at all levels.
  • Directs all phases of a successful Athletic program including in-season, off-season, and summer. Ensure that all student athletes are physically fit and conditioned for the sport they are participating in..
  • Understands and supports the academic responsibilities of the players and the Academic standard set by TVHS.
  • Assists Athletic Director in managing program budget and schedule.
  • Promotes and encourages multi-sport participation by student athletes.
  • Promotes players for local, state, and national recognition, and to colleges as applicable.
  • Stays current in ongoing coaching education.
  • Performs other teaching, administrative, or professional duties as assigned by the Principal or Athletic Director.

Desired Head Coach Qualifications:

  • Previous Head coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level.
  • Strong knowledge of the game of Baseball. Including techniques, rules, and strategies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes.
  • Commitment to promoting academic and athletic excellence.

Requirements for all Coaches:

  • Must meet all Saddle Mountain unified School District, and AIA coaching requirements.
  • Knowledge: Understand the AIA / NFHS rules and regulations
  • First Aid Certification: Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • IVP Clearance Card: Obtain and Maintain a valid IVP fingerprint Clearance card.
  • NFHS Courses Required: Fundamentals of Coaching, Concussion in Sports, and Sportsmanship.
  • Valid AZ Drivers License

Essential Functions:
Must advise, coordinate and support the sport staff with the athletic director and principal, to instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.  At the same time, the students shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence.

General Tasks
The position includes other aspects such as extended time, risk injury factors and due process predicaments.  It is the express intent of the job description to give sufficient guidance to function.  In cases not specifically covered, it shall be assumed that a coach will exercise the common sense and good judgment of a prudent and reasonable person.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Must have a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the high school administration, and be responsible for implementation by the entire staff of the sports program.  Must have knowledge of the existing system, state and region regulations; implementing same consistently, and interpreting them for staff and athletes.  Must understand the proper administrative line of command and refer all requests or grievances through proper channels.  Maintains discipline, manages grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation.  Develops, organizes, and supervises practices and competitions to ensure ethical participation, the safety of all who are present, as well as the adherence to all AIA and NFHS rules of the sport.  Performs other duties which may be assigned by the athletic director/principal.  Assists the athletic director in scheduling, providing transportation and requirements for tournament and special sports events.  Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practice.  Advises the athletic director of recommendations pertaining to changes in policy.

Stipend Range: $3,100 - $3,702 DOE

Qualifications: Valid Arizona Teacher Certification or Substitute Certificate required. Employment as a teacher with the Catalina Foothills School District preferred. Must have ability to organize and supervise a total sports program. Should possess substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and, at the same time, continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
