TITLE: Athletic Coach
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Seasonal (Fall, Winter, Spring sports)
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Stipend – Based on Extra Duty Salary Schedule
GENERAL STATEMENT of RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Athletic Coach will be responsible for providing a positive working relationship with students, faculty, staff, and parents. Responsibilities will include coaching student athletic programs and ensuring adherence to AIA guidelines.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
- Coach student athletes in area of assigned responsibility
- Organize and supervise a total sports program
- Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff, faculty and parents.
- Confirms that all athletes have met AIA and district eligibility requirements before participation in scheduled events.
- Communicates team policies to all athletes (V, JV, FR)
- Follows district and school drug/alcohol codes
- Reports Team Roster and Athletic Scores to the Athletic Director’s office.
- Assists Athletic Director with athletic events for assigned athletic team.
OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:
Medium risk - Work is routinely performed in outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and being on your feet for extended periods of time. Requires standing in inclement weather including summer heat.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport.
- Valid Arizona teacher certification, or Arizona coaching certification, or Level 1 Certification issued by National Federation of High School Associations (NFHS) (This requirement is only for Head/Varsity positions)
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
- Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
- Completion of NFHS online education course entitled “Fundamentals of Coaching”. Course.
- Completion of NFHS online education course entitled, "Concussion in Sports - What You Need to Know.”

Candidate Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Prior coaching experience in competitive sport you are applying for (high school level or higher) preferred
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with student-athletes
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Commitment to the holistic development of student-athletes and fostering a cohesive, positive team culture
Required Certifications (to be completed within 2 weeks of hire):
- NFHS Coaching Certification (Fundamentals of coaching AND Level 1 cert)
- Current CPR/AED Card
- Current First Aid Card
- NFHS Concussion Training
- NFHS Heat and Illness Prevention Training
- Valid DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card with IVP#
- Completion of school-provided training for student transportation (white buses) before season begins
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement effective training sessions and tactical plans to improve individual skills and overall team performance
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and character development
- Maintain player safety and well-being at all times
- Organize and oversee practices, matches, and program logistics in accordance with AIA and NFHS guidelines
- Provide ongoing mentorship and feedback to athletes
- Collaborate with the Athletic Department to support the overall mission of the school and athletic program

Scottsdale Prep, a Great Hearts Academy, is seeking dedicated, disciplined, and mission-aligned flag football coaches to lead and support our high school flag football programs. This paid position offers the opportunity to mentor student-athletes, build character, and develop flag football fundamentals within a program rooted in classical education and virtue.
The ideal candidate embodies the Great Hearts philosophy and is passionate about player development, teamwork, leadership, and long-term program growth. Coaches will play a key role in creating a unified 9th–12th grade flag football program that emphasizes discipline, safety, and excellence both on and off the field.
Responsibilities
- Coach and develop student-athletes in high school flag football, including practices, games, and team activities.
- Teach and reinforce flag football fundamentals, positional techniques, game strategy, and safety methods.
- Assist in planning and executing structured practices and training sessions, typically beginning at or after 3:30 PM on school days.
- Promote sportsmanship, discipline, accountability, and leadership among student-athletes.
- Support game-day operations, including setup, supervision, and sideline responsibilities.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director to ensure program alignment and consistency across grade levels.
- Utilize on-campus facilities including the football field, weight room, and speed/agility training areas.
- Mentor student-athletes academically and personally, serving as a positive role model.
- Maintain compliance with Great Hearts policies, league rules, and all safety and concussion protocols.
Qualifications
- Previous flag football coaching or playing experience at the middle school, high school, or collegiate level preferred.
- Strong understanding of flag football fundamentals, position-specific techniques, and safety principles.
- Ability to work with student-athletes of varying skill levels and developmental stages.
- Alignment with the Great Hearts mission and commitment to character-focused coaching.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Consistent availability on school days at or after 3:30 PM for practices, games, and team activities.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain before the season begins).
- Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card (may be in progress at time of hire).
- Clean and professional background consistent with Great Hearts and school standards.
Compensation
This is a stipend-based position. Stipends vary based on experience, role, and availability.
Typical stipend range: $1,200 – $3,500 per season, depending on level and commitment.
