Corona had a chance to win the game in regulation, but the Aztecs missed a shot at the buzzer before holding on to a three-point lead that Brophy cut to one at the end of the game. The Broncos' (8-5) Ryan Milne led all scorers with 18 points.

Hawks outshoot Bulldogs, 81-42 - Nogales International - 12/19/08 The Hawks boy’s basketball team advanced to 4-1 on the regular season with a crushing 81-42 victory over Douglas High Monday at Rio Rico High School. Martin Riesgo was top shooter for the Hawks, with 16 points, but almost everyone scored, including the bench. Rio Rico got off to a blazing start, outscoring the Bulldogs, 32-2 in a killer first quarter. Douglas never recovered. The Hawks were coming off a 71-58 victory over Cholla on Thursday.
Apaches top Rangers, Eagles - Nogales International - 12/17/08 Nogales High wrestlers took first place over Rincon and Santa Rita Wednesday in their first home meet at Pete Drakulich Gymnasium. The Apaches beat Rincon, 72-9 and Santa Rita 61-18 to amass 133 points for first place. Santa Rita beat Rincon, 45-12, for 63 points total. Rincon, with 21 points, finished third in the multi-meet. It was a really good meet, Nogales’ 189-pounder Ivan Cota said. “We have three amazing coaches who share their skills with us, and we just take as much as we can.”

Ryan Schrimpf made 22 points against Bisbee Tuesday in an away game and had 18 against Tombstone at home Thursday. Robert Lucero scored 18 at the Bisbee game and 11 at home, for a 59-43 victory over Tombstone. It looks like this year’s Lobos are more than filling the gap left by departing players Thor Peterson, Mack Wood and Nash Finley. “They have a good team …#8220; a better team than they had last year …#8220; much better,” Tombstone coach Sam Hopkins said.
